The Norwegian Action Plan for Environment in Development Cooperation was presented in June 2006. The Government’s aim is for Norway to play a leading role in making environmental concerns an integral part of all development cooperation. The ultimate goal of Norway’s efforts is for developing countries to acquire the capacity and competence necessary to safeguard their right to a clean environment and the ability to manage their natural resources in a sustainable manner. The action plan sets the direction for Norway’s efforts for the next ten years.

As part of its increased focus on climate change and environment the Norwegian Embassy
carried out environment and climate change review and screening assessments of its portfolio in 2008. The objective of the review was to identify possible ways and means of addressing/integrating appropriate climate change and environmental concerns in existing bilateral programs and projects supported by Norway.. Based on the review and screening the Embassy has prepared a follow-up plan with a limited number of priority areas covering the main sectors of support.
