Private Sector Development

31/08/2009 // The Private Initiative of Citizens is identified in the Mozambican PRSP, PARPA as the engine for economic growth. Norwegian support to Private Sector Development (PSD) in Mozambique was emphasized in 1999 when Mozambique was chosen as one of the 3 pilot countries for the Norwegian Strategy to Support Private Sector Development in the South.

The Norwegian Strategy identified interventions at three levels:

- Macro-level: Targeting support to macro-economic measures and conditions favorable to Private Sector initiatives. This is mainly conducted trough the macro support dialogue within the scope of the state budget support mechanism.

- Meso level: Sectorial intervention that have an enabling or catalytic effect to PSD, infrastructure development like energy grid extension and roads rehabilitation are some examples.

- Micro level: Enterprise level support aiming at improving the competitiveness of firms and/or enhancing their access to markets.
