Fiancé Permit

Six months work and residence permit when the intention is to get married or enter into partnership.

The purpose of the permit is that marriage or partnership shall be contracted in Norway. If this is the intention of your stay in Norway, it is possible to apply for a work and residence permit (fiancé permit). If granted you will be given a six months work and residence permit and during this period marriage or partnership must be contracted. This fiancé permit falls under the same regulations as that of family immigration. As a result, after the marriage and before the fiancé permit expires, a permit for family immigration can be submitted. This is done at the police in Norway. You can continue living in Norway during the processing period.

The person with who you will enter into marriage or partnership must be one of the following:
a) A Norwegian citizen
b) A foreign citizen who has a settlement permit/right to live permanently in Norway
c) A foreign citizen who has a permit which after three years gives the right to live permanently in Norway

Requirements
1. Two completed application forms: Application for a residence permit or work permit
2. Passport size colour photo (white background, not smiling, visible ears)
3. Documentation of the civil status of you and your partner
4. Birth certificate
5. Copies of all the pages of yours and your partner’s passports (also blank pages)
6. Documentation of subsistence (for example the last three months salary slips, work contract, tax certificate, etc.)
7. Documentation of housing (rental or sales contract)
8. Information about plans of marriage
9. A fee
10. Documentation in conjunction with the application for fiancé permit is to be submitted in original form unless otherwise specified
11. All documents must be translated into English or Norwegian

The application has to be submitted, via the Embassy in Maputo, to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). It is important to enclose all necessary documentation with the application. Applications from which important information is missing, or when there is doubt that the conditions are fulfilled, will take longer to process.
