Parental Visit

Residence permit for up to nine months to visit children in Norway.

The purpose of the permit is that you shall visit your child living in Norway. As a parent you may apply for such a permit after having arrived in Norway. This can be done at the police in the district. When the permit is received after arrival, the nine months are calculated from the day you entered the Schengen area.

The permit does not entitle you to work in Norway and cannot be renewed. However, a permit for nine months visit can be applied for after you have been out of the country for one year. The duration of the permit cannot be longer than the duration of the permit of the child, and may therefore be given for a shorter duration than nine months in some cases. You are entitled to travel in and out of Norway within the validity of the permit.

The child residing in Norway must be a Norwegian or Nordic citizen, hold a settlement permit or hold a permit which may constitute a basis for a settlement permit. It is a prerequisite that subsistence and housing are ensured.
