In March 2016, a delegation of Mozambican parliamentarians went on a study trip to Stavanger and Oslo as part of the Oil for Development Program. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the parliamentarians’ ability to make knowledge-based decisions by presenting the Norwegian experience and approach to managing natural resources.

The International Gas Union and the World Bank held a regional Gas Competence Seminar in Maputo on September 22-23, 2015. The seminar aimed to raise awareness and discuss strategic options that natural gas offers for sustainable access to energy, and for social and economic development.

Since 2010, Mozambique has experienced enormous discoveries of natural gas in the Rovuma basin, outside the Northern Province of Cabo Delgado. In fact, the quantities are so large that the country is likely to be producing gas for at least the next 150 years. Currently, the estimates of gas in place are close to 200 TCF (Trillion Cubic Feet). And there might even be more.

A new agreement for support from Norway to the Mozambican Petroleum Institute (INP) of NOK 50, 46 million (USD 8, 27 million) was signed between Deputy Foreign Minister Henrique Alberto Banze and the Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Hans Brattskar, Thursday 26 June 2014.
