The event, which took place in Quelimane, marked a milestone in the cooperation between the University of Bergen and the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, which has previously focused on undergraduate levels. The long-term cooperation between the two universities has been carried out under the leadership of Professor Tor Gammelsrød at the Institute of Geophysics in Bergen and Professor António Mubango Hoguane at the School of Marine and Coastal Sciences in Quelimane, and is funded by Norad’s Programme for Master Studies (NOMA).
The four candidates completed their degrees within the two year proposed schedule for the Master’s programme and achieved excellent results, having spent most of the first year at the Institute of Geophysics in Bergen before completing their Master’s thesis in Mozambique. The former students are now fully engaged in new projects, one working at the Mozambican Sea Mapping Authority while the three others are contributing to the education of the 15 students at next year’s class of Master’s students under the programme, who will complete their studies in Quelimane.
